Grisly details have unfolded in the disappearance of a 35-year-old West Plains woman. Detectives with the West Plains Police Department have unearthed partial remains of a female body in a wooded area near the Lanton Trailer Park in West Plains. Detectives were led to the area after Walter L. Stewart, the female’s alleged boyfriend, admitted to killing and dismembering her body.

Walter L. Stewart, age 63 of West Plains is being held in the Howell County Jail on charges of murder-1st degree; 2 counts of armed criminal action; abandonment of a corpse and domestic assault-1st degree. Bond has been denied to Stewart.

The charges set forth in an indictment are merely accusations, and each defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
